Tourism #5: Kaysersberg

Located on the Alsace Wine Route, Kaysersberg is a lovely little medieval town that has preserved beautiful vestiges of the past and whose name means the Emperor's mountain. It is also here that the Alsatian pastor Albert Schweitzer, Nobel Peace Prize winner in 1952, was born.

Stroll through its cobbled streets, admire its red sandstone church, its fortified bridge dating from 1514, its romantic washhouse, its main cobbled street, its carefully preserved picturesque half-timbered houses, the Renaissance town hall and the Sainte-Croix church which is distinguished by its beautiful Romanesque portal with, inside, a superb sculpted altarpiece from the 16th century. You can also access the keep of the imperial castle of Kaysersberg which overlooks the city.
